Overview

Duties and Responsibilities
• System diagnostics and troubleshooting skills
• Installation and removal of all equipment on emergency vehicles
• Install and repair a wide range of in-vehicle electronics (i.e. sirens, lighting, controls)
• Vehicle repairs that include removing and reinstalling interior trim, retrofitting and upgrading
• Install emergency equipment into Law Enforcement/Fire/Fleet Vehicles (sirens, consoles, mdt’s barriers, lighting, modems)
• Install electrical wiring, connect electrical fittings, drill holes, soldering and perform all physical tasks associated with modifying vehicles for the acceptance of emergency-related equipment
• Develop wiring routes throughout the vehicle for the most efficient wiring path and enable future replacement and/or troubleshooting
• Troubleshoot and diagnose problems with equipment as necessary
• Determines customer requirements to assist in developing labor and cost estimates for quotes
• Document all services rendered and parts used on Service Ticket for all installations or removals done
• Maintain an orderly and clean working environment, keeping the installers area organized
• Complete all required paperwork (service orders, work logs, timecards, etc.)

Physical & Working conditions
• Stand and sit for extended periods of time
• Ability to lift, push, pull and/or move up to 50 lbs
• In shop environment
• Comfortable with working outdoors if required
• Ability to work a wide range of hours depending on job type

Qualifications
• Marine/RV/Bus experience an asset
• Mobile radio experience an asset
• Strong troubleshooting skills
• Prior emergency vehicle installation experience a must
• Controller programming experience an asset
• In depth knowledge of vehicle wiring systems
• Able to identify electrical circuits
• Experience with installation of emergency lighting, controllers, modems, GPS, antennas
• Proficiency with hand tools and power tools
• Strong Soldering skills
• Good Motor Vehicle Driving Record and Valid G Driver’s License

Requirements
• In Depth knowledge of 12-volt systems required
• Ability to read electrical drawings and understand them
• 310k, 310S Licensed or Radio Communications Technician Certificate required
• 2-3 years previous experience working on Emergency Vehicle installations and electronic repairs required
• Pre-employment Police Background check is mandatory
• High School Graduate or Equivalent
